Did you know that the Kia Sportage is the oldest vehicle on the automaker’s lineup? The Sportage was the second vehicle offered by the brand here in North America, preceded only by the long-discontinued Kia Sephia. Back then it was a traditional SUV, though it still belonged to the compact size segment. It first entered production in 1993 and joined the lineup for the 1995 model year.
When the Sportage entered its second generation for the 2005 model year, it was upgraded to its current class, the compact crossover segment. Kia has done a great job of keeping the iconic SUV relevant, reinventing it every few years. It entered its third generation for 2011, its fourth for 2017 and its fifth and current for 2023. Now, the 2025 Kia Sportage has arrived here at World Kia in Joliet, Illinois, and we couldn’t be more stoked to make it available to shoppers in the area.
Having just kicked off its fifth generation a couple of years ago, engineers didn’t need to change much for the 2025 model year. They did make a few small adjustments, including a new Premium Package available on the EX trim level as well as some blacked-out exterior design elements for the X-Line and X-Pro trim levels.
Firstly, the Premium Package now available on the EX trim level includes a panoramic sunroof and the Smart Power Liftgate. As for the dark themed enhancements for the X-Line and X-Pro trim levels, both models now feature black badging as well as some gloss black elements including the front and rear bumper treatment and side sills. Finally, the X-Line trim level also now features gloss black alloy wheels.

Typically we would want to highlight a bunch of the important specifications and highlight some of the most exciting features and technologies found in the vehicle, but with three vastly different versions of the Sportage available we thought we should focus on the different powertrain options for the rest of this blog.
For starters, the conventional gasoline powertrain available in the base Kia Sportage is a 2.5L four-cylinder engine capable of generating up to 187 horsepower alongside 178 pound-feet of torque. The Sportage Hybrid is instead powered by a 1.6L turbocharged hybrid powertrain capable of generating a combined 227 hp alongside 258 lb-ft. of torque. Then finally, the Sportage Plug-in Hybrid is powered by a 1.6L turbocharged plug-in hybrid powertrain, which boosts power a bit more to 261 hp and 258 lb-ft. of torque.
We hope all of this information has helped you get a better idea of what the 2025 Kia Sportage has to offer.
