It has already been four years since Kia did away with the Optima in favor of the all-new K5, which was one of the first steps in the brand’s total overhaul of its sedan lineup. These days the midsize sedan is joined only by its compact sibling, the Kia K4, which was just introduced for the 2025 model year. It remains to be seen if older models like the Rio, Stinger, Cadenza and K900 will be reimagined in the new-look Kia sedan troupe, but for now we’re simply stoked to provide the 2025 Kia K5 to shoppers here in Joliet, Illinois, and the surrounding area. This year the K5 is receiving its first mid-generation refresh, so let’s highlight what’s new in the model this year before highlighting its other details.
“The K5 can be almost anything to anyone looking for a five-passenger midsize sedan. With a lineup of variants, including available all-wheel drive for places just like Chicago in the wintertime, the new 2025 K5 continues to offer a unique and striking alternative in an otherwise stalwart segment. The updates for 2025 position the K5 in the sweet spot for those needing room for five but prefer to make a bold statement when it comes to their vehicle.”
– Steven Center, COO & EVP, Kia America
With its first mid-generation refresh, the 2025 Kia K5 brings with it updates to both the exterior and interior aesthetics, reaffirming the brand’s dedication to sportiness, plus a host of new and updated technologies, including newly standard Advanced Driving Assist Systems. On top of all that, the Kia K5’s old 1.6L turbocharged engine has been replaced by a 2.5L normally aspirated four-cylinder engine capable of generating up to 191 horsepower – an increase of 11 hp over its predecessor – alongside 181 pound-feet of torque.
While we’ve already touched on some of them, we want to dive into a brief overview of the technical specifications that make the 2025 Kia K5 what it is. So we’ll revisit the sedan’s power output while highlighting other key specs like space and efficiency. Check out the table below for all the deets.
LXS, GT-Line, EX | GT | |
Horsepower | 191 hp | 290 hp |
Torque | 181.5 lb-ft. | 311 lb-ft. |
City Fuel Economy | 24-26 mpg | 23 mpg |
Highway Fuel Economy | 33-37 mpg | 33 mpg |

Trunk Volume | 15.6 cu. ft. | 15.6 cu. ft. |

The fuel economy ratings are listed in ranges as the actual numbers depend on trim level and drivetrain. For example, the GT-Line equipped with an all-wheel drive system gets 24/33/27 mpg but 25/36/29 with front-wheel drive.
